Background/Experience: Nicholas Grillias is a fourth year Trumpet
Performance major at California State University Northridge, where
he studies with studio musician Jon Lewis. Nicholas began playing
at the age of ten and has studied the trumpet for eleven years. He
began lessons in junior high school with Jerry Boots, Principal
Trumpet for the San Luis Obispo Symphony, and continued to study
with him until attending CSUN in August of 2007. In 2005-2006
Nicholas had the privilege of playing the Leo Janacek Sinfonietta
with the San Luis Obispo Symphony. While at California State
University Northridge (CSUN), Nicholas has played in the Jazz B
Band, University Orchestra, 2008-2009 Studio Ensemble at Warner
Brothers Studio, and the 2007 CSUN Wind Ensemble performance
at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Nicholas continues to play in the
Orchestra, Jazz B Band, CSUN Wind Ensemble and is co-founder
of a collegiate brass quintet, volunteers in the CSUN Youth
Philharmonic and also teaches fourth grade beginning trumpet
students at Calahan Elementary.
